Forest School

Forest School- What is it all about?

Here is a little bit of background information to show why we love outdoor learning…

What is a Forest school?

The ethos of Forest School is based more on the process of learning than it is on the content – more on the ‘how’ than the ‘what’. It believes in children’s right to play; to access the outdoors and the natural world; and the right to experience a healthy range of emotions, through all the challenges of social interaction. This means that Forest School practice steps out of ‘planned activities’ and ventures into the realms of the unplanned, unexpected and unlimited. Children and young people are given encouragement to direct their own learning.

Why do we have a Forest School?

To promote the children’s learning needs- some children respond much better to an outdoor environment

  • Nurture self esteem
  • Promote healthy lifestyles
  • Improve confidence, communication and social skills
  • Develop an appreciation and respect for the natural environment
  • Raise standards of attainment
  • To make their experiences fun, exciting and memorable!

How can parents be involved?

We are keen to show off our forest as we develop it further and opportunities will be made for parents to come and see/ be involved in this process.

We are still developing our forest and would really appreciate it if anyone has access to logs/sticks/natural materials/ plants/ bushes etc. that they could offer or even plant for us we would be very grateful for. We would love to make our forest even better.

Special thanks…

We were able to set up our Forest School because of the generosity and support from our Parents, Carers and families during fundraising events. Your continued support is greatly valued by the children and staff at school we really appreciate your help.

Ducklings Pre-school

After a very successful sponsored ‘toddle’ around the lake Ducklings raised a huge amount of money which paid for lots of wonderful resources for us to use in the forest including a den building kit, builders trays, digging and mixing tools, magnifying glasses a wheel barrow and our wonderful waterproof suits ( which means we can enjoy working outdoors in all weathers) plus much more!

B&Q

B&Q have continued to support us in our ‘Outdoor Learning’ venture and have on numerous occasions donated and supported events held at school. We have been given lots of wonderful plants and equipment by the store and we really appreciate their kindness.
